My mom and grandmother took me out to eat to the newly reopened Chisholm Grill last weekend. My mom didn't even have to ask me and before I knew it, I was asking for ketchup to go on my mac-n-cheese, as I fed myself every bite. "Mmmm Mmmm Good!" My mom was so proud she texted some good friends the good news along with a picture of me taking my own bite! Mommy nearly cried with joy! It's been 3 year since I've been eating orally. And it's been a year since I have needed any food through my feeding tube. I'm growing up!
Another big step to independence for me recently has been undressing and dressing myself with very minimal assistance. It is hard for me sometimes since my hand strength is low. I'm doing pretty good with it though. Oh...and don't let me forget to tell you about my reading skills. My wonderful tutor, Mrs. Bray, made my mommy so happy to show her that I can read sight words by using pictures to match to 3-letter words.
