It's Where People Look Like Me (Maddie)
2010 FCM Convention - Scottsdale, Arizona
In 2010, my family and I attended the Foundation for Children Microcephaly (FCM) Convention where there were a lot of people there who looked like me! At the convention I met a special little boy named Brady from Nebraska that I felt like I had known my whole life. We immediately held hands and began running down the hall together laughing and talking. No one else understood a word we were saying...but we sure did! To learn more about the foundation, go to www.ChildrenWithMicro.org.
Maddie was diagnosed with Microcephaly at birth in 2001 (a part of her syndrome, Feingold Syndrome). In 2010 we formed For Maddie's Sake, a non-profit foundation, to help support Maddie's needs, desires, and social inclusion. Since October 2010, we've raised $1,500 that's helping Maddie receive one-on-one reading tutoring. It's also helping to fund the all-inclusive social dances called Saturday Social Dance - a dance for all children with and without a disability. Maybe you can join us at our next dance - February 11, 2012.
